Located within the context of one of the country’s best teaching hospitals, the C4TS has developed its own undergraduate and post-graduate education courses and schools outreach programmes.

Our distance learning courses provide students with a broad and critical understanding of the most up-to-date science and practice of trauma care in a range of environments. A summer school incorporating simulated scenario training (consistent with the student's scope of practice) complements the didactic learning to provide practical knowledge and experience of decision-making, along with the safe, professional delivery of core clinical functions in the management of seriously injured patients.

We also provide engaging outreach events for young people and families to help them understand in a tangible way the reality and increasing risk of traumatic injury, and inspire the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals to pursue a trauma-associated career. Our outreach program includes school visits, exhibiting at science fairs and presenting shows at the Blizard Institute's unique Centre for the Cell - the first science education centre in the world located within medical research laboratories.

MSc in Trauma Sciences

Barts and the London School of Medicine offer three innovative Masters programmes in Trauma Science: MSc inTrauma Sciences, MSc in Trauma Sciences (Military and Humanitarian) and MSc in Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences.

Military Training

We offer pre-deployment placements for military personnel. Pre-deployment placements are an opportunity to gain firsthand experience of working with a hospital trauma team and to understand the differences and challenges when working in outdoor austere environments.

Work Experience and Electives

The Centre for Trauma Sciences offers a range of educational placements for school students as well as undergraduate and graduate-entry medical students. This is a chance for students to apply newly acquired knowledge and skills within a specialised environment.

Outreach Programs and Events

Our outreach programmes and events educate young people and the wider community about traumatic injury and highlight the vital role that scientific research plays in the continuous improvement of medical practice. Sustained educational engagement will help to raise career aspirations of young people and inspire the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals to pursue a trauma-associated career.
