UK launches first national appeal for trauma research

July 16, 2017

Rap star Professor Green today launched Barts Charity's #TransformTrauma appeal to raise money for research to improve survival and recovery experiences for trauma victims.

Speaking to The Mirror newspaper, Pro Green (real name Stephen Paul Manderson) said he had twice been a victim of trauma - once as the victim of an unprovoked knife attack outside a club in East London, and then severely injured by a motor vehicle accident.  The trauma team at the Royal London Hospital, supported by the Centre for Trauma Sciences, saved his life.

The Charity's trauma appeal aims to raise £1m to invest in trauma research. Only 1% of medical research funding in the UK is directed to trauma care research, despite the fact this is the biggest killer of young people (under 40) and a high burden of mortality and morbidity for all age groups in the UK and across the globe.

A concert to raise awareness and money for trauma research, headlined by Professor Green, will be held at the Village Underground in London on 9 September.
