C4TS in the news

September 18, 2017

Over the last month, C4TS has been receiving welcome mainstream UK media attention to the ground breaking research conducted within the institute.

C4TS has worked with Barts Charity to launch the Transform Trauma campaign, the first national campaign in the UK to raise awareness of the incidence of civilian trauma and the benefits of investing in trauma research.  The Mirror Group, with the second largest readership reach of any UK media outlet, are official media partners in the campaign.

The Transform Trauma appeal is aiming to raise £1m for trauma research.

So far, the campaign has run three two page features about trauma survivors and trauma research in the Sunday Mirror newspaper. C4TS lead Professor Brohi has also appeared on national television with trauma survivors, including ITV’s This Morning and the Victoria Derbyshire show. . Professor Brohi discussed the impact of trauma and what can be achieved for patients with increased trauma research investment.   Research fellow Jo Shepherd also appeared on BBC Radio 5 programme The Naked Scientist, discussing the immune system’s response to trauma.

High profile trauma survivors are supporting the campaign, including rapper Professor Green, one of the UK’s most popular performing artists.  Professor Green (real name Stephen Manderson) headlined a fundraising concert at London venue the Village Underground on Saturday 9 September.  The concert sold out, with 1200 attending over the night, and featured trauma survivor videos and projections about trauma research.

Professor Green has experienced trauma twice, attacked with a knife in a London nightclub in 2010, then several years later the victim of a car collision. At time of posting, his video discussing his trauma experience and support for the work of C4TS has received over 4.1 million views on the Mirror Facebook page.
