Barts Charity 2018 Trauma Appeal launched

September 14, 2018

This week saw the launch of Barts Charity’s 2018 Trauma Appeal, which aims to increase awareness and funds for trauma research and care.

Who are Barts Charity?

Barts Charity are Barts Trusts’ dedicated charity, giving up to £30 million a year to Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry and Barts Health NHS Trust. The Charity has  committed millions to support the ground-breaking work of C4TS including funding towards CRYOSTAT-2 and the new AfterTrauma app.

Why trauma?

North East London is set for a 40% increase in trauma over the next 10 years. Barts Charity’s Trauma Appeal aims to raise awareness of trauma as an issue and of the world leading work being done at the C4TS and our primary clinical partner The Royal London Hospital. The appeal aims to raise £1 million for trauma research and care at these sites.

Last year’s appeal

Last year the appeal was fronted by rapper Professor Green. The appeal raised £325,000 and reached over 3.5 million people thanks to a partnership with the Sunday Mirror and a social media campaign.

This year’s appeal

This year, The Sunday Mirror and Daily Express have pledged their support and the Charity are hoping for more coverage featuring several trauma survivors who are sharing their stories in support of the appeal.

The Charity team have also planned a Facebook and digital communications campaign which features 3 common scenarios: an elderly person falling down stairs, a child falling off their bike and an adult in a road traffic accident. You can click here to see each of them on the Charity’s website, and viewers are encouraged to share the link with their networks.

The Charity is asking the public to support the appeal in the following ways:

  • Spread the word by sharing their posts on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and mentioning the appeal to friends and families.
