Dr Linda Chokotho

Dr Linda Chokotho is the first female Orthopaedic Surgeon in Malawi.

Dr Chokotho is a Fellow of the College of Surgeons for East Central and Southern Africa and was the recipient of the Rahima Dawood Gold Medal for being the best student in her final Orthopaedic examinations in 2007. She also holds a Master’s in Public Health from University of Cape Town.

She is currently working at Beit Cure International Hospital as an Orthopaedic surgeon and Director of Research, and her sub-specialty is hand surgery. She is also an Honorary Lecturer with the College of Medicine, University of Malawi, Current President of the Women in Surgery Association of Malawi (WinSAM), and a research consultant with AO Alliance Foundation, an organisation which supports fracture care in developing countries. Dr Linda Chokotho was also a senior researcher for the COSECSA Oxford Orthopaedic Link (COOL) project.

Her current research interests include the following: epidemiology of trauma in developing countries; fracture care in developing countries and its outcomes; and paediatric disabilities. She has published several papers on these areas.
