Pan London Major Trauma System Rib Injury Toolkit Event

Pan London Major Trauma System Rib Injury Toolkit

4th September 2019 from 13:00 - 17:00

Across the London Major Trauma System (LMTS) almost a quarter (22%) of TARN submissions involve rib injuries, and of these, two thirds of rib injured patients are admitted to Trauma Units (TUs). Within LMTS, each Major Trauma Centre (MTC) has developed local rib injury management guidance and many share guidelines across their networks. However, during recent peer reviews, variation in provision and adoption of rib injury guidance was identified.

We would like to develop a LMTS tool kit to provide clinicians, nurses, therapists and prehospital practitioners from across the system with a suite of tools to support optimal management of patients with rib injuries.

We propose an interprofessional collaborative rib injury tool kit development event to appraise evidence/expert advice, share best practice, identify risks, barriers and training needs, referral pathways and make recommendations on behalf of LMTS.

We do not propose that this event ‘re-invents the wheel’ or rewrites existing guidance, rather we aim to provide a frame work for ‘how to do it’, providing guidance on what elements should be incorporated into a local pathway, in order to improve patient experience and outcomes through a more standardised approach.

Working within LMTS and interested in joining this collaborative meeting? We are seeking LMTS nurses, therapists and clinicians from all specialties who work with patients with rib injuries.  The meeting will be held in the afternoon of 4th September 2019, venue TBC.
