Dr Dianna Smith

Lecturer in Trauma Epidemiology

Dianna trained in geography with a focus on public health and brings this expertise to her teaching and research; she is working on several projects which assess the relationship between local environments, populations and incidence of injury or ill health. In addition she models health inequalities in local neighbourhoods with the aim of estimating the impact of population-level interventions.

Research interests:

Dianna’s research spans health behaviours including alcohol consumption, diet, smoking and physical activity. Current projects include a study to assess the relationship between alcohol outlet availability and related injuries in selected areas of London. She is working with orthopaedic surgeons at the Royal London Hospital to analyse data on cycling-related injuries throughout London. She is keen to identify optimal prevention strategies to reduce cycling injury, such as cycle training in targeted populations. Dianna's role within the Public and Policy Research Core aligns closely with her research at the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health.
