Dr Gareth Grier

I am a Consultant at Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. 

Gareth is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Prehospital Care at Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.

His major focus is on prehospital education and leadership, and he was the founder of the Institute of Prehospital Care in London.

Gareth created the intercalated BSc degree and then the masters in prehospital medicine at Queen Mary University London, where he is a Senior Lecturer in Prehospital Medicine.

Gareth was a flight physician and consultant at London HEMS for 15 years, and in 2022 became the lead for the Centre for Excellence at Essex and Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT).

His focus there is on education, research, and innovation in prehospital care with a major focus on head injury, cardiac arrest, patient experience and outcomes, as well as the impact of bystander interventions on better survival.

As well as the university academic programmes, Gareth has founded short courses such as the Prehospital Care Course (PHCC), PEER (Prehospital and Emergency Endovascular Resuscitation) course, and has been responsible for the education of several hundreds of prehospital clinicians across the world.

He has also been involved in working with elite athletes, coaches and high-performing medical teams on human factors and performance under pressure, establishing educational principles in this area that are intended to improve patient care in emergency situations.
