Dr Miguel Burguillos
For several years I have been working in the field of neuroinflammation with a particular focus in the inflammatory response induced by microglia in different neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Stroke.
Currently as a Senior Researcher I am interested in the neuroinflammatory processes triggered upon Traumatic Brain Injury using both in vivo and in vitro approaches, trying to understand the mechanisms involved during this process.
I am interested in defining better and more precisely the different phenotypes in reactive microglia/ macrophages (M1/M2) and I am also very interested in the “crosstalk” between microglia and neurons during development. Right now I’m interested in describing the inflammatory pathways triggered by a lectin termed galectin 3 in microglia and the importance that it may have during TBI.
