Kavi Patel
Kavi is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in the management of acute complex trauma and all aspects of elective lower limb reconstruction; including failed fracture fixation, non-union, deformity correction and bone infection. He is particularly driven by improving long-term outcomes in the polytrauma patient and works as part of an integrated orthoplastics service.
Having graduated from the Royal Free and University College Medical School, he completed his higher surgical training on the Cambridge rotation following which he undertook two post-CCT fellowships in complex trauma and limb reconstruction at King’s College Hospital (Graeme Groom) and St George’s Hospital (Alex Trompeter).
Kavi has authored a textbook chapter, multiple peer-reviewed articles and delivered international podium presentations in his field. He has also
completed a full-time Masters in Surgical Science at UCL which culminated in the publication of basic science research. A keen educator, he holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, is regular faculty on limb reconstruction/trauma courses and is a Senior Clinical Lecturer/co-director on the Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences MSc at the Blizard Institute. He is the fracture-related infection lead on the steering committee of the UK Bone & Joint Infection Registry.
As an Army Reservist, Kavi has a developing role in conflict/humanitarian surgery and orthopaedic trauma care in the austere environment. Outside of work, Kavi enjoys watching/playing sport, adventure travel (ideally in the mountains) and outdoor cooking.
